The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is actively investigating the tragic rape-murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata, revealing serious allegations of evidence tampering and a possible cover-up involving local law enforcement. Following a directive from the Calcutta High Court, the CBI has uncovered "false records" related to the case and secured crucial CCTV footage from the police station linked to the incident, which is currently undergoing examination at a central forensics lab.

Key figures in this investigation include Abhijit Mondal, the officer-in-charge of Tala Police Station at the time, and Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the hospital's former chief, both of whom are in CBI custody. Mondal has been arrested on charges of tampering with evidence, while Ghosh faces allegations of financial irregularities. Additionally, Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer seen on CCTV entering the room where the victim's body was found, has also been arrested.

The CBI's inquiries have led to suspicions of a "nexus" between Mondal and Ghosh, highlighted by phone communications between the two. However, the defense has argued that such contact is normal given the serious nature of the crime reported. The agency is also investigating a potential "criminal conspiracy" among the suspects, particularly focusing on the delayed seizure of evidence, which could have compromised the case.

Both the High Court and Supreme Court have expressed concern over procedural delays, including a troubling 14-hour gap between the discovery of the body and the filing of a police case. This raises questions about the hospital administration's actions, particularly under Ghosh's leadership.

Amidst these developments, junior doctors have partially resumed duties after a prolonged strike demanding justice for their colleague and the resignation of officials allegedly involved in the case. The investigation continues to draw significant public attention, placing the Bengal government and police force under intense scrutiny.
