A heartbreaking incident has come to light involving Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash, who recently took his own life after allegedly being extorted by his estranged wife and her family. His family has filed a police complaint accusing his wife, her family members, and a judge of abetment of suicide.

Atul, in a recorded 80-minute video and a 24-page suicide note, accused his wife, Nikita Singhania, and her family of extorting crores of rupees from him, beyond his financial capacity. He claimed his wife filed multiple cases against him and his family, including accusations of dowry harassment, after he refused to give more money. He also alleged that his wife’s family’s demands led to the death of her father due to stress.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with BJP MP Kangana Ranaut condemning the harassment and extortion Atul endured. She expressed that the situation highlights the dangers of fake feminism and misuse of laws meant to protect women, stressing that it is not right to generalize based on a single wrong woman.

Before his tragic end, Atul called on his family to not immerse his ashes until justice was served, and made a request for his parents to be given custody of his child, who had been kept away from him by his wife.

The Supreme Court recently flagged concerns over the misuse of laws related to dowry harassment, urging courts to exercise caution in such cases to avoid unnecessary harassment of innocent people.
