Amravati, the capital of Andhra Pradesh, is set to make cricketing history with the construction of the largest cricket stadium in India, which will surpass the current record-holder, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) has announced that the new stadium will have a seating capacity of over 1.32 lakh spectators, making it the largest in the country.

The ACA president, Kesineni Sivanth, revealed that the state government has been asked to allocate 60 acres of land for the project. Financial assistance from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will help fund the construction, alongside local fundraising efforts. Sivanth emphasized that this stadium would not only enhance the country's cricket infrastructure but also bring international recognition to Amravati as a global sporting hub.

Focus on National Games 2029: Looking ahead, the ACA has set its sights on hosting the 2029 National Games in Amravati. In addition to the new stadium, the ACA plans to establish three cricket academies in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Vijayawada, and Rayalaseema, aiming to boost local cricket talent. Former Indian cricketers Mithali Raj and Robin Singh are set to be appointed for training at these academies.

The ACA is also working on modernizing the Visakhapatnam stadium, transforming it into a state-of-the-art venue capable of hosting Indian Premier League (IPL) matches. Sivanth expressed optimism about seeing around 15 players from Andhra Pradesh in IPL teams over the next two years, further nurturing local talent.

Transformation of Cricket Infrastructure in India: Cricket in India has undergone significant infrastructural transformations in recent years, with the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad currently standing as the largest stadium in the world. However, Amravati’s new stadium is poised to become a major landmark in Indian sports.
