Although the campaign declined to comment on these meetings, Harris is expected to begin her campaign tour with her running mate this week, starting with a rally in Philadelphia on Tuesday night, where Shapiro is likely to be present, regardless of the final decision.

Progressive groups have been particularly critical of Shapiro and Kelly, accusing them of being too conservative on key issues. Union leader Shawn Fain expressed concerns about Kelly's commitment to pro-labor legislation and criticized Shapiro's support for school vouchers. There is also division among major Democratic donors, with left-wing contributors voicing concerns about Shapiro's positions, particularly on the Israel-Hamas conflict.

The debate among Democrats has become heated, with some even questioning whether language used against Shapiro, who is Jewish, was antisemitic. Despite this, Shapiro remains a favored candidate among pro-Israel donors and business-friendly contributors.
