On Sunday, Andhra Pradesh was struck by relentless rainfall, leading to severe flooding in the Krishna and Godavari rivers. The overflow from these rivers, along with streams inundating low-lying areas, has caused significant damage to agriculture, affecting approximately 1.11 lakh hectares of crops, including 12,431 hectares of horticultural produce. The heavy rains have also breached roads, disrupting vehicular traffic across multiple districts.

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has been actively involved in addressing the crisis, conducting inspections of the flood-hit areas and urging officials to assess the extent of damage to crops and infrastructure. Home Minister Vangalaudi Anitha and Agriculture Minister K Atchannaidu have been coordinating with their respective departments to evaluate the impact and facilitate immediate relief for affected communities.

The flooding has severely disrupted transportation. The overflow of the Munneru rivulet has impacted traffic between Vijayawada and Hyderabad, with police halting vehicle movement at key toll gates. The APSRTC, which planned 10,045 services across the state, managed to operate 9,108 services, reflecting a 91% operation rate. Train services have also been disrupted, with buses provided to transport stranded passengers from major train stations. Additionally, the energy sector has suffered significant losses, with APEPDCL and APCPDCL reporting combined damages of over ₹101 lakh. Power generation has been temporarily halted at several units due to flooding. The State Disaster Management Authority is actively assessing the damage and coordinating relief efforts.
