  • Priyanka Gandhi, PM Modi, Congress, Indian politics,

In a recent statement, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra expressed her disappointment that Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not personally respond to a letter from Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge. Instead, Modi delegated the task to BJP President JP Nadda, whose response she characterized as "inferior and aggressive." This incident has sparked a broader discussion about the current state of politics in India, which Gandhi described as being rife with "poison."

Kharge's letter, addressed to PM Modi, urged him to take action against BJP leaders for their "objectionable and violent" remarks aimed at Rahul Gandhi. He highlighted particularly inflammatory statements made by Minister of State for Railways, Ravneet Singh Bittu, and UP Minister Raghuraj Singh, who referred to Rahul Gandhi as a "number one terrorist." The situation escalated with comments from Sanjay Gaikwad of the Shiv Sena, who offered a financial reward for anyone who would silence Gandhi.

Nadda's reply not only dismissed Kharge's concerns but also included a litany of past criticisms aimed at PM Modi by Congress leaders. This approach led Priyanka Gandhi to question the lack of respect afforded to Kharge, noting that he is significantly older than the Prime Minister—Kharge at 82 and Modi at 74. She pointed out that if Modi truly believed in democratic values, he would have personally engaged with Kharge's concerns instead of opting for an aggressive rebuttal.

Gandhi emphasized that open dialogue and the ability to ask questions are foundational to democracy. She lamented the disregard for dignity and etiquette in political communication, arguing that the Prime Minister missed an opportunity to enhance his public image and the dignity of his office by responding respectfully to a senior leader.

In the wake of ongoing criticisms directed at Rahul Gandhi—especially following his statements in the U.S. regarding reservations—this incident illustrates the intensifying tensions between Congress and the BJP. PM Modi, without naming Gandhi, has made remarks indicating that some individuals are undermining national unity, further fueling the political fire.
