  • Vijay Paul, Raghu Rama Krishna Raju, Andhra Pradesh, custodial torture

In a significant development in the custodial torture case involving Telugu Desam Party MLA Raghu Rama Krishna Raju (RRR), the Andhra Pradesh police have arrested former Additional Superintendent of Police Vijay Paul. Paul, who retired from his post, was arrested by Prakasam district police after a nearly ten-hour interrogation at the SP office in Ongole. This arrest follows the rejection of Paul's bail petition by the Supreme Court earlier this week.

The case stems from a complaint filed by RRR, alleging he was physically abused and tortured in CID custody in May 2021. Following these claims, the AP police filed an "attempt to murder" case against several individuals, including Vijay Paul and former CID chief PV Sunil Kumar. The arrest of Vijay Paul marks the first significant breakthrough in the case, and it is expected to have wider implications, potentially leading to more arrests.

RRR had been charged with sedition and promoting enmity between groups, but he was granted bail by the Supreme Court. The arrest of Vijay Paul is seen as a step toward justice for RRR, who has long demanded strict action against those involved in the alleged conspiracy.
