The incident occurred when Rahul, who opened for India alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal, appeared to have edged the ball into the hands of Australian wicket-keeper Alex Carey off pacer Scott Boland’s delivery. However, it was later revealed that Boland had overstepped, and the delivery was a no-ball, granting Rahul a second chance.

This no-ball prevented Rahul's dismissal, and India’s No. 4 batter, Virat Kohli, was ready to replace him at the crease, only to be sent back by the umpires as Rahul had not yet been dismissed due to the no-ball.
