After being in the making stage for a very long time, Akhil Akkineni's Agent finally saw limelight today, 28th April. The film is promoted as a slick action thriller. Let us see what the film has to offer.

Story: A spy(Akhil) goes on a wild mission to take on a terrorist organization. But Akhil himself has a shady and dark past. He has to deal with his past demons and also on the crooked terrorist organization. What are the challenges that he faces?

How did the actors perform?

Akhil has undergone a wild transformation for his role of a wild spy agent. He has grown long hair, built a ripped and chiseled physique and has the right demeanor for the role. But the issue is that there's no novel drive to his character. The wild presentation turns monotonous after a point.

Mammootty, and Sakshi Vaidya, all get decent roles and they perform well. Mammootty is a seasoned actor and he has delivered what is expected of him. The villain character played by Dino Morea is comical to say the least.

What about the technical finesse?

The director Surender Reddy has failed in presenting his trademark action thriller. There's style but no substance in the film. Hiphop Tamizha's work is utterly poor. The songs are duds and so is the BGM. Visual presentation is top-notch. The foreign visuals are of top quality.

Analysis:

Agent is a vague attempt to highlight Akhil's makeover. There's wild action all through the film and the attempt to present him as a rogue spy with style. But the lack of proper writing behind this makes for a dud.

There's a lot of action in the film and the choreography is fine as well. But there isn't a strong fueling factor for all of this.

The villain track is comical to say the least. When the narrative is around a hero and a terrorist organization, a serious thread is expected. But Surender Reddy presents in the weakest way possible. The lack of conflict acts against the cause, if there was any.

The opening half has no real substance and it just keeps going on and on and on without any direction. The writing is inexistant and so is the drive to take the story forward.

The climax portion is tiring as well and it rounds off this poorly made spy thriller. The resources are simply waster. The excellent making values and production designing account for nothing.

Verdict: Agent is a wasted opportunity. Akhil is alright, but Surender Reddy rolls out a undercooked product that doesn't have anything going its way. This is his weakest work till date. The film is a poorly presented actioner.

Rating: 2/5
