- Russia missile attack, Ukraine energy crisis, blackout Ukraine, Putin Russia weapons
Russia launched a massive assault on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure overnight, using 90 missiles and 100 drones. The attack has left over one million people without electricity as temperatures drop, marking the 11th large-scale attack on Ukraine's power systems this year. Ukrainian authorities have accused Russia of "weaponizing winter," with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemning the use of cluster munitions against civilians and infrastructure.
At least five people were injured in the attack, and several regions, including Kyiv, Odesa, and Vinnytsia, experienced blackouts. Ukrainian power engineers are working to restore electricity where possible, but many households remain without power. Zelenskyy has called for more support from international allies, particularly for air defense systems to protect against such attacks.
Russian President Vladimir Putin justified the strikes as a response to Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory with Western-supplied weapons. Putin also highlighted Russia’s advanced missile systems, including Kalibr, Kinzhal, and Tsirkon, and warned that Russia reserves the right to target countries supporting Ukraine.
