- Andhra Pradesh AI, AI in governance
At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Nara Lokesh, the Information Technology and Human Resource Development Minister of Andhra Pradesh, discussed the state's progressive approach to integrating artificial intelligence (AI) in key sectors including governance, education, and healthcare. Lokesh highlighted Andhra Pradesh's real-time governance model and emphasized how AI could serve as a game-changer, particularly for students, women, and farmers, promoting inclusive development.
The state plans to leverage AI for better decision-making, using huge datasets to optimize government services, ensuring efficient delivery, and providing innovative solutions. Lokesh mentioned projects that harness AI to improve government service processes, transforming traditional approaches and making them more responsive to citizens' needs.
In the education sector, Andhra Pradesh has shifted from an output-based to an outcome-based model, utilizing AI-powered adaptive learning tools. These tools help turn passive classrooms into hubs of active engagement, with two-minute explainer videos and interactive assessments enhancing student comprehension and empowering teachers to improve their curricula.
Lokesh also spotlighted AI’s potential in healthcare, especially in preventive medicine. AI-powered facial scans, currently undergoing FDA reviews, can now capture critical health parameters, potentially transforming how healthcare is delivered at scale.
Additional AI applications in the state include climate and disaster advisories for farmers, which could double their incomes. The focus remains on empowering marginalized groups, including women and students, with essential AI skills. Lokesh stressed that AI is an opportunity for creating more jobs, not fewer, and encouraged skills development to ensure individuals are equipped for future roles.
Global leaders like Matt Renner from Google Cloud and Archna Vyas from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation echoed Lokesh’s sentiment, praising the role of AI in addressing challenges like disaster management, where AI is already driving innovations such as satellite imagery and weather data analysis.
As AI continues to disrupt global industries, Andhra Pradesh has committed to being a disruptor, not a follower, in this technological revolution.
