A tragic train accident occurred near Pachora station in Jalgaon, Maharashtra, after a fire rumour spread on board the Pushpak Express, causing panic among passengers. The incident took place around 5 pm when passengers jumped off the train after a fire rumour, and were struck by the oncoming Karnataka Express, which was traveling on an adjacent track.
Initial reports suggest that sparks inside a coach of the Pushpak Express, possibly caused by a "hot axle" or "brake-binding," led to the panic. Some passengers, fearing the worst, pulled the emergency chain, which halted the train, and then jumped onto the tracks. Tragically, the Karnataka Express was passing by at the same time, hitting several passengers.
Maharashtra's Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his grief over the loss of lives and assured that the district administration, along with railway officials, is working to provide immediate assistance to the injured. He stated that ambulances have been dispatched, and nearby hospitals are on standby to treat the victims. Emergency services, including equipment like glass cutters and floodlights, have been mobilized to manage the situation.
Senior officials, including Minister Gulabrao Patil, are reportedly heading to the scene to oversee the ongoing rescue operations.
