  • Nadu Nedu program, Nara Lokesh criticism

The Nadu Nedu program, a flagship initiative of former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, aimed to significantly improve the infrastructure of government schools across Andhra Pradesh. While the program was publicly lauded for its focus on beautifying schools, recent revelations suggest that there were serious underlying issues with its implementation. IT Minister Nara Lokesh has come forward with critical observations about the program, pointing out significant financial mismanagement.

According to Lokesh, despite the grand claims made by YSR Congress leaders about the Nadu Nedu program, many fundamental issues were neglected. He highlighted that basic operational costs, such as payments for Ayammas (nannies), watchmen, and toilet cleaning materials, were left unpaid. This financial oversight not only affected the daily functioning of the schools but also indicated a broader issue of mismanagement within the program. Lokesh accused the previous administration of squandering substantial funds without addressing essential needs, which he described as a form of financial misconduct.

In response to these revelations, Lokesh announced that his administration has taken steps to rectify the situation by releasing overdue payments. A total of Rs. 87.9 crores, including Rs. 64.38 crores for staff salaries and Rs. 23.52 crores for toilet cleaning materials, has been disbursed to address the outstanding dues. This move aims to resolve the immediate financial concerns and underscore a commitment to proper governance and accountability in managing public funds.
