Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has voiced strong opinions about Rishabh Pant’s cricket career and the state of international cricket. Ganguly lauded Pant’s return to the Test side following a serious car accident in December 2022. Pant is expected to make a significant impact in the upcoming Test against Bangladesh starting on September 19. Ganguly considers Pant one of India's finest Test batsmen and believes he could become an all-time great if he continues his impressive performances. However, Ganguly also emphasized that Pant needs to enhance his game in shorter formats like T20s and ODIs.

Ganguly also discussed the current Indian squad's preparation and strategy, noting that Mohammed Shami’s injury has given uncapped pacers like Yash Dayal and Akash Deep a chance. He praised Akash Deep for his potential and speed, comparing him to established fast bowlers. Ganguly mentioned the challenges India will face in the Test series against Bangladesh, acknowledging Bangladesh's recent success against Pakistan but predicting a tough series for them against a strong Indian team.

In his critique of the Pakistani cricket scene, Ganguly expressed concern over what he sees as a "genuine dearth of talent" in the current squad compared to the great players of the past. He highlighted that Pakistan’s cricket, once celebrated for legends like Javed Miandad and Wasim Akram, is now struggling to produce outstanding players, reflecting on their recent performances and series losses.
