- Tirumala laddu investigation, Supreme Court
The Supreme Court of India has taken significant steps in the ongoing investigation into the Tirumala laddu fiasco by constituting a Special Investigation Team (SIT). This team will comprise two officers from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), two officers from the Andhra Pradesh police, and one representative from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
In preparation for this SIT, the Andhra Pradesh police have put forward two names for consideration: Sarvasreshta Tripathi, an Inspector General (IG), and Gopinath Jetti, a Deputy Inspector General (DIG). The state’s Director General of Police (DGP), Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, has officially forwarded these recommendations to the Supreme Court. Notably, Sarvasreshta Tripathi previously led an SIT formed by the Andhra Pradesh government prior to the Supreme Court's intervention.
Once the court approves these appointments, the formation of the SIT will be nearly complete, paving the way for the investigation to commence shortly thereafter. The AP DGP has assured that the state police will not interfere with the investigation, allowing the SIT to operate independently.
The Supreme Court has not set a specific timeline for the investigation, suggesting that the process may progress at its own pace. Given the seriousness of the situation, every detail will be scrutinized carefully, indicating that the investigation could take some time.
The CBI is expected to finalize its two investigative officers for the SIT soon, along with one officer from the FSSAI, ensuring that the investigation is well-staffed and comprehensive.
