The Indian Navy successfully test-fired the 3,500 km range K-4 ballistic missile from the recently inducted nuclear submarine INS Arighaat on Wednesday. This successful test is a crucial step in validating India's second-strike capability, a critical aspect of the nation's strategic deterrence. The missile system, part of India's ongoing efforts to bolster its defense infrastructure, will undergo further tests to ensure its operational readiness.
INS Arighaat, which was inducted into service in August at the Ship Building Centre in Vishakhapatnam, joins INS Arihant as one of the two nuclear-powered submarines in the Indian Navy capable of launching ballistic missiles. The Navy is also preparing for the induction of a third such submarine, which is expected to be launched next year.
