The Indian government has announced the withdrawal of its High Commissioner from Canada in response to allegations linking him and other diplomats to the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. This decision comes after Canadian authorities identified the Indian High Commissioner as a "person of interest" in their investigation. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) expressed a lack of faith in the Canadian government's ability to ensure the safety of Indian diplomats, highlighting a deteriorating relationship between the two countries.

The MEA described the allegations against High Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Verma as "ludicrous" and criticized the Trudeau government's actions as potentially endangering the safety of Indian officials. The statement further condemned the Canadian government's perceived support for extremism and separatism, asserting that India reserves the right to take further actions in response.

Tensions have been rising since Prime Minister Narendra Modi's brief meeting with Trudeau at the ASEAN Summit, where substantive discussions were reportedly absent. The situation reflects broader concerns about Canada's tolerance of pro-Khalistan elements operating from its territory, a major issue in India-Canada relations.
