- Andhra Pradesh, Tesla plant, Nara Lokesh
The Andhra Pradesh government is making significant strides in attracting investments, evidenced by the recent arrival of major players like TCS and Lulu Mall. In a notable announcement, IT Minister Nara Lokesh discussed the state's investment opportunities and hinted at the possibility of a Tesla manufacturing plant setting up operations in Andhra Pradesh.
In an interview with a national media outlet, Lokesh mentioned, “There could be an update on the Tesla plant as and when the company deems fit. We are working our way and that is all I can say for now.” He further noted that Chandrababu Naidu has been in contact with Elon Musk since 2015, emphasizing the government's ongoing efforts to facilitate this potential investment. “You might hear some news in the due course,” Lokesh added, sparking excitement among the youth and investors alike.
While Lokesh did not provide a specific timeline for Tesla's arrival, his comments suggest that the automotive giant is exploring options in the state. If successful, this initiative could further elevate Naidu's legacy, particularly following his success in bringing the Kia plant to Anantapur district.
The Andhra Pradesh government is not merely inviting investments; it is also prepared to assist in acquiring over 2,500 acres of land needed for Tesla’s project, including the possibility of purchasing from private entities. Senior officials have identified several strategic locations, including areas near the Kia plant in Anantapur, which is advantageous due to its proximity to Bengaluru, as well as regions near Naidupet and Sri City for better access to Chennai and Krishnapatnam Port.
These proactive measures highlight the Andhra Pradesh government's commitment to fostering a robust investment climate, potentially transforming the state into a manufacturing hub.
