Following former Infosys CFO Mohandas Pai's criticisms of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, Andhra Pradesh minister Nara Lokesh has extended an invitation to multinational companies (MNCs) to consider investing in the state. Lokesh emphasized that under Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's leadership, Andhra Pradesh is implementing business-friendly policies that could make it a prime destination for investments as Bengaluru faces growing challenges in infrastructure and governance.
Pai's unsettling observations about Bengaluru, particularly during recent rains, highlighted the city's infrastructural vulnerabilities, raising concerns about its status as India’s Silicon Valley. In a series of tweets, he lamented the government's inaction regarding critical issues such as road maintenance and traffic management, which he claimed has caused frustration among both the public and businesses. His remarks echoed a broader sentiment of discontent that has emerged over the past two decades.
In response, Nara Lokesh invited MNCs to view Andhra Pradesh as a viable alternative to Bengaluru, promising a supportive business environment and a world-class ecosystem. However, Pai expressed skepticism regarding investor confidence in Andhra Pradesh, referencing the challenges posed by previous governance under YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. He pointed out that visible progress and improved connectivity are crucial for attracting businesses and talent to Amaravati.
Pai noted that without concrete action on the ground, mere promises would not suffice, drawing parallels with the earlier successes of Naidu's administration in Hyderabad. The exchange between Lokesh and Pai serves as a critical indicator of the competitive landscape for investment in India's tech sector, urging leaders to respond effectively to the evolving needs of businesses.
