The Women’s T20 World Cup will see a new champion this year as New Zealand Women defeated the 2016 champions, West Indies Women, in the semi-final match on Friday. The White Ferns will face South Africa in the final on Sunday, following South Africa's earlier victory over Australia in the first semi-final.

Chasing a target of 129 runs, the West Indies were restricted to 120 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in Sharjah. The West Indies' bowling attack initially showed promise, with Deandra Dottin delivering an impressive performance, taking 4 wickets for just 22 runs and helping to limit New Zealand to 128 runs in their 20 overs.

New Zealand's innings featured solid contributions from openers Suzie Bates, who scored 26 runs, and Georgia Plimmer, who made 33 runs. Despite the tight bowling from West Indies, the pair laid a strong foundation for their team's innings.

As the match progressed, West Indies struggled to maintain momentum in their chase. Despite their efforts, they ultimately fell short, leading to New Zealand's victory and their progression to the final. With this win, New Zealand has a chance to claim their first T20 World Cup title, while West Indies will be left to reflect on a tournament that saw them unable to defend their championship status.
