Khar Gymkhana has officially revoked the membership of Indian cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues following complaints from members about the alleged misuse of membership privileges by her father, Ivan Rodrigues. The decision was made unanimously during the Gymkhana's Annual General Meeting (AGM), where it was revealed that Ivan had been booking the Presidential Hall at discounted rates using Jemimah's membership for religious activities, violating Article 4 of the Gymkhana's by-laws.
Shiv Malhotra, a member of the managing committee, explained that approximately 35 such events had been organized over the past year and a half, preventing other members from accessing the hall. Malhotra expressed that while Jemimah is a source of pride for the country and a celebrated athlete, the misuse of membership privileges could not be overlooked.
Madhvi Ashar, Vice President of Khar Gymkhana, added that the members were upset upon hearing the details during the meeting, leading to the swift decision to cancel her membership. This action reflects the Gymkhana's commitment to upholding fairness and adherence to its by-laws, even amidst the accolades surrounding Jemimah's cricketing career.
Jemimah Rodrigues has represented India in three Tests, thirty ODIs, and 104 T20Is, accumulating 3,087 runs and six wickets throughout her career. While her contributions to the sport are widely recognized, the Gymkhana's decision emphasizes the importance of responsible membership usage.
