Supreme Court Questions Missing Post-Mortem Challan in Kolkata Doctor's Rape and Murder Case

In a significant development in the Kolkata doctor rape and murder case, the Supreme Court of India raised concerns about a missing post-mortem challan, a crucial document required for conducting the autopsy. Chief Justice DY Chandrachud highlighted that without this challan, the post-mortem could not be completed properly. Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, representing the West Bengal government, struggled to locate the document, prompting the court to demand clarity on its absence.

The absence of the challan raised questions about the procedural integrity of the autopsy. Justice JB Pardiwala noted that the post-mortem report showed discrepancies, indicating the challan was either missing or improperly handled. The Chief Justice instructed the CBI to obtain this document from the Bengal government and scrutinize its relevance to the ongoing investigation. The Solicitor General emphasized the importance of this document in verifying the authenticity of the forensic process.

The Supreme Court has directed the CBI to file a fresh report by next Tuesday, focusing on who collected the forensic samples and addressing the delay in FIR registration. The court's scrutiny of the forensic procedures and document handling reflects its commitment to ensuring a thorough and transparent investigation into this high-profile case.
