Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena recently addressed Chief Minister Atishi in a letter filled with both praise and sharp criticism directed at her predecessor, Arvind Kejriwal. Saxena expressed disappointment over Kejriwal's remark calling Atishi a "temporary Chief Minister," emphasizing that such a comment disrespects the democratic principles laid out by India's Constitution. He clarified that there is no such position, calling the remark an insult to the President of India and himself, as the one who administered Atishi’s oath.

Saxena commended Atishi for her active involvement in governance, contrasting her approach with Kejriwal’s tenure where he allegedly avoided handling government departments. However, he also suggested that while Atishi is being tasked with the responsibility, the shortcomings of the government will ultimately fall on her as the current Chief Minister, even though elections are due soon.

In response, Atishi accused Saxena of engaging in "dirty politics" and reiterated her commitment to continuing the work of her predecessor, Arvind Kejriwal, who had focused on the betterment of Delhi. Atishi also voiced personal hurt over the obstruction in the Mahila Samman Yojana, a government scheme for women's welfare.

The escalating tensions between the Delhi LG and the Delhi government come ahead of the crucial Delhi Assembly elections, expected in February 2024.
