In South Korea's deadliest air disaster, a Jeju Air passenger jet, Flight 7C2216, crashed during its landing attempt at Muan International Airport on Sunday, resulting in 179 fatalities. The crash occurred after a series of events, starting with a bird strike reported by the pilot as the flight was approaching the airport.

According to the final timeline of the flight, the aircraft was cleared by air traffic control at 8:54 am to land on runway 01. However, just minutes later, at 8:59 am, the pilot declared a "Mayday" emergency after a bird strike and initiated a go-around. The pilot requested permission to land on runway 19, which was approved by air traffic control at 9:01 am.

At approximately 9:02 am, Flight 7C2216 touched down on the runway, but the aircraft overran the landing strip, crashing into an embankment. The airport's fire rescue unit responded quickly, deploying fire rescue equipment within minutes. Despite their efforts, the crash resulted in significant loss of life.

Rescue teams managed to extricate two survivors from the wreckage. The first was transported to a temporary medical facility at 9:23 am, and the second was rescued from the tail section of the plane at 9:50 am. Muan Airport was closed at 9:38 am as the crash site was secured.

This tragic event marks one of the deadliest air disasters in South Korean history, and authorities continue to investigate the causes of the crash.
