- Kerala startup, eco-friendly bottles, organic water bottles
A Kerala-based startup, in collaboration with the Kerala Irrigation Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (KIIDC), is preparing to launch India's first eco-friendly, organic water bottles. Known as 'compostable bottles,' these bottles are designed to replace plastic bottles and are part of an innovative initiative aimed at promoting sustainability.
The new product, branded as 'Hilly Aqua,' will be launched by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in mid-January. This groundbreaking project was made possible through the efforts of Kerala’s Minister for Water Resources, Roshy Augustine, who showed interest in a prototype developed by Green Bio Products, a company that specializes in biodegradable materials. This prototype was showcased at an exhibition in Mumbai in 2019.
Green Bio Products, a subsidiary of Eight Specialist Services, a Kerala-based startup, will supply the raw materials needed for the bottles, while KIIDC will oversee the manufacturing process. All materials used for producing the bottles are biodegradable and certified by both domestic and international agencies.
Initially, the bottles will be distributed in high-traffic areas such as tourism spots and festivals. The plan is to expand the distribution to other areas across Kerala and eventually to other parts of the country. This initiative will make Kerala the first state in India to launch organic water bottles, positioning the state as a leader in sustainable packaging solutions.
