In a significant diplomatic development, the United States will inaugurate its consulate in Bengaluru on Friday, January 17, 2025, fulfilling a long-standing demand from the city and its residents for local access to US consular services. The announcement was made by Bangalore South MP Tejasvi Surya, who confirmed that the consulate would be dedicated by the US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti.

 

Temporary Location and Operations

Initially, the consulate will operate from a temporary location at the JW Marriott Hotel on Vittal Mallya Road. The hotel, which already houses the United States Commercial Service (USCS) office, will serve as the consulate’s base until a permanent facility is established. The consulate will begin operations with a limited number of officers at the temporary site, with plans for a fully functional consulate in the future once a permanent location is secured.
