- Congress, Modi, Adani, JPC probe, Parliament protest
Congress MPs staged a protest in Parliament by wearing jackets that displayed the slogan "Modi-Adani Ek Hain" (Modi and Adani are one) on Thursday. This demonstration was part of the party's ongoing campaign to demand answers from the government about alleged financial irregularities and favoritism involving the Adani Group. The protestors entered Parliament premises wearing the jackets and chanting slogans accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of protecting billionaire businessman Gautam Adani, whose conglomerate has been under scrutiny due to reports of possible stock manipulation and financial mismanagement.
Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, stated that the protest aimed to highlight the alleged "unholy nexus" between the Modi government and the Adani Group. He criticized the BJP government for remaining silent on serious allegations against Adani, claiming the issue was not just about one individual but a larger problem of systemic corruption and favoritism. The Congress also reiterated its demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to investigate the charges against the Adani Group. Party leaders claimed that the government is shielding Adani by avoiding a transparent inquiry into the matter.
The protest led to sharp reactions from the ruling BJP, with party leaders dismissing it as "political theatrics." BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia accused the Congress of using the Adani issue to divert attention from its own leadership crisis and corruption allegations. The conflict over the Adani Group has been a major point of contention between the Congress and the BJP. Despite the government denying any wrongdoing, the Congress continues to push for accountability, using protests like the one on Thursday to increase pressure on the government for a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into the matter.
