Trump Eyes India Visit to Strengthen US-India Ties

President-elect Donald Trump is considering a trip to China after taking office as part of efforts to strengthen ties with Beijing. He has also discussed the possibility of visiting India, according to reports. During his election campaign, Trump had threatened to impose higher tariffs on Chinese goods.

Sources familiar with the matter told that Trump expressed interest in visiting China to improve relations with President Xi Jinping, despite the tensions over trade. Additionally, talks about a potential visit to India have been initiated, with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar visiting Washington around Christmas.

India is preparing to host the QUAD Summit with leaders from Australia, Japan, and the U.S., and Trump's visit to India could occur as early as April or in the fall. There is also speculation that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi might be invited to the White House for a meeting in the spring.

In a recent conversation with President Xi, Trump noted that it was a "very good" call, and the two leaders discussed various topics, including trade, fentanyl, and TikTok. Trump expressed optimism about solving problems together, stating that the call was beneficial for both countries.

The Beijing visit would take place during a sensitive time in U.S.-China relations, with Trump pushing for stricter actions against Chinese chemical producers linked to fentanyl trafficking.
