Nepal's tourism industry, which saw a post-pandemic resurgence with over a million foreign visitors this year, continues to grow, attracting tourists with unique experiences like the recently held hot-air balloon festival. The event, organized by Sabin Maharjan and his team, featured more than 10 countries participating in the thrilling balloon flights. The stunning views of the snow-capped Annapurna range, mountains, lakes, and rolling hills provided an unforgettable experience for the pilots and passengers. "A ride here can be very exciting as you can see mountains, hills and lakes," said Maharjan.

The event also showcased creative balloon designs, including a rat and a frog, slowly drifting through the skies. Pilots from across the world, such as Derek Hamcock from the U.S. and Diego Criado del Rey from Spain, marveled at the natural beauty surrounding them. "As soon as you go above the small range here you see all the Himalayas," said Hamcock. For Criado del Rey, ballooning was not just a ride, but a harmonious experience with nature: "You never know where you are going. It is pretty much you and nature, being together."

Nepal’s Civil Aviation Authority made special arrangements to ensure safe flights during the festival by issuing a notice for the skies over Pokhara. This nine-day period allowed balloon flights, offering a thrilling adventure that harkens back to the first manned balloon flight by the Montgolfier brothers over two centuries ago. The festival highlights the growing appeal of Nepal’s tourism, where adventure meets breathtaking landscapes, further solidifying its status as a top destination for global travelers.
