On November 1, a tragic incident occurred at the Penang Sentral bus terminal in Butterworth, Malaysia, where an 18-year-old man lost his life due to electrocution while charging his mobile phone. After boarding an express bus to Kuala Lumpur, the teen plugged his phone into a socket available on the bus. Approximately ten minutes later, passengers heard him scream, and upon turning to check, they found him foaming at the mouth.

Fellow passengers quickly called emergency services, who arrived at the scene around 6:20 PM local time. Unfortunately, paramedics pronounced the young man dead shortly after their arrival. An autopsy confirmed electrocution as the cause of death, with initial investigations revealing burn marks on the victim's left fingers, suggesting he suffered a severe electric shock.

The bus driver reported that the charging cable had melted, and the phone had overheated, indicating a significant failure in the bus's electrical system. In response to this tragic event, Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced the formation of a special task force to investigate the incident, emphasizing the ministry's commitment to ensuring passenger safety. The task force has been given a deadline of two weeks to provide a comprehensive report.
