The sudden visit of Jana Sena Party president and Andhra Pradesh deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan to New Delhi on Wednesday to meet Union home minister Amit Shah created a lot of buzz in the mainstream as well as social media. The visit assumed significance in the wake of his latest strong comments against his cabinet colleague home minister Vangalapudi Anitha over the failure of law and order and rising crimes in the state. There were reports that Shah had called Pawan Kalyan to Delhi to know what exactly had happened, what made the latter make such serious comments against the police department and home minister, and whether the law-and-order situation in the state was really so bad. However, sources revealed that it was Pawan who had sought the appointment of Shah long ago.

“He has been trying for a meeting with Shah for the last four months and finally, he got the message on Tuesday confirming the appointment,” sources said. But there was hardly anything Pawan could discuss with Amit Shah, as he was given only 15 minutes time; and the first five minutes were spent only on exchanging pleasantries, presentation of bouquets and memento and posing for photographs. “There was nothing serious discussed at the meeting, as Shah enquired about how Pawan was enjoying his new role in politics and his departmental issues. He also asked about the general perception of the people about the government and whether the administration was back on track,” sources said. Pawan, apparently, made a brief reference to the police inaction in the state and how they are yet to come out of the influence of the YSRCP.

“Shah had just listened to him and assured that the Centre would extend all possible help to the state in whatever manner it can,” sources added. Pawan himself said it was just a courtesy call as he had not met Shah after taking over as the deputy chief minister. “Otherwise, no politics was discussed,” sources added. So, for just a 10-minute courtesy call with Shah, Pawan had to spend more than half a day on his Delhi visit!
