Indian boxer Nikhat Zareen has candidly reflected on her recent Olympic experience, acknowledging that it wasn't her day after a surprising medal-less campaign. Competing in the 50kg women's boxing category, Nikhat, a two-time world champion, faced top seed Wu Yu of China in the preliminary round, resulting in a unanimous decision loss. This early exit was especially disheartening for Nikhat, as many boxers she had previously defeated went on to win medals.

"Nobody is perfect; it was not my day," Nikhat stated. "I was unseeded and had to face a very good boxer early on. What really hurts is seeing others, whom I had beaten before, winning medals." Despite the setback, she emphasized the importance of accepting reality and moving forward.

Currently on the lookout for a personal coach, Nikhat expressed her desire for tailored training to elevate her boxing skills. "I was training at the Inspire Institute for a while, but now I want a personal coach who can help me become a better boxer. Once I find someone, I will let you know," she said.

Nikhat is keen on exploring international training opportunities, believing that exposure to diverse boxing styles will enhance her performance. "Training abroad can push me out of my comfort zone and provide better practice opportunities," she added. She aims to work on her strength and adaptability in the ring, which she considers crucial for future competitions.

With the International Boxing Association facing governance issues, Nikhat is aware of the ongoing changes in Olympic boxing. "I'm waiting to see the weight categories that World Boxing might introduce. If a 52kg category emerges, I will be the happiest because that is my most comfortable weight," she mentioned.

As she prepares for her next steps, Nikhat Zareen remains determined to overcome this setback and emerge stronger in future competitions.
