Rishabh Pant Appointed Captain of LSG for IPL 2025
Indian cricket team wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant has been named the captain of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for the upcoming IPL 2025 season. Pant, who was previously the captain of Delhi Capitals (DC), was bought by LSG for a record-breaking Rs 27 crore in the IPL 2025 auction. The decision came after a bidding war between LSG and DC, with LSG winning the deal.
Pant’s IPL Journey and Record Auction Bid
Pant has a strong IPL leadership history, having captained DC in the 2021, 2022, and 2024 seasons. He became the costliest player in IPL auction history following the intense bidding. Despite his previous association with DC, Pant decided to part ways with the franchise ahead of the 2025 season, marking a new chapter in his IPL career with LSG.
LSG’s Leadership History and Future Plans
Pant will be the fourth captain in LSG's IPL history, following KL Rahul, Nicholas Pooran, and Krunal Pandya. LSG made the playoffs in 2022 and 2023 but missed out in 2024, finishing seventh on the points table. Pant will now lead the team as they aim to bounce back stronger in 2025.
Pant’s Captaincy and IPL 2025 Team Setup
Pant will be joining LSG with a star-studded team, including players like Nicholas Pooran, David Miller, Mitchell Marsh, and Aiden Markram in the batting department. He will also have Indian seamers Akash Deep and Avesh Khan, along with bowling talent like Ravi Bishnoi and Mohsin Khan. Pant will work under head coach Justin Langer and team mentor Zaheer Khan.
End of Pant’s Nine-Year Association with DC
Pant’s decision to leave DC came ahead of the IPL 2025 retention deadline. His exit marked the end of his nine-year association with the franchise, which was mainly driven by his leadership role within the team. His departure is seen as a significant change for DC as they enter the new season without him at the helm.
