- Siddaramaiah, MUDA scam, Karnataka CM
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has expressed confidence that he will receive justice from the judiciary in the ongoing Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) land scam case. Siddaramaiah, who is the prime accused, along with his wife BM Parvathi, named as the second accused, is currently facing scrutiny over the alleged misuse of political influence for land compensation deals. The Karnataka High Court's Dharwad bench has reserved its judgment on the petition requesting a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the scam. The court also stayed the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) summons for Parvathi until February 10, questioning the urgency of the ED's actions.
In his statement, Siddaramaiah denied any concerns about the legal proceedings, maintaining his faith in the judicial system. He further claimed that the entire case is politically motivated, referring to the investigation as a strategic move by his opponents. The petition that has raised concerns about the investigation’s transparency argued that the case warrants a CBI probe rather than being handled by the Karnataka Lokayukta, as alleged discrepancies in the probe process have been highlighted. The High Court is set to make its final judgment after considering the arguments and counterarguments in the case.
The MUDA land scam involves allegations that Siddaramaiah used his political position to secure compensation for land in the name of his wife, in exchange for a portion of acquired MUDA land. The court's ruling on the ongoing investigation, and the decision on whether the case will be transferred to the CBI, is eagerly awaited as it may have significant political ramifications.
