- Chandrababu Naidu, Swachh Andhra Pradesh, Cleanliness Drives, Second Saturday Initiative
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has unveiled a new initiative aimed at promoting cleanliness and sanitation across the state. Announced during the inaugural session of the collectors' conference in Amaravati, Naidu declared that every second Saturday of the month will be observed as a special day for the ‘Swachh Andhra Pradesh’ program. This initiative will include various cleanliness drives and sanitation-related activities across the state.
Naidu emphasized that government officials, including district collectors, should actively participate in the program by engaging in waste removal, clearing clogged drains, and contributing to community cleanliness efforts. He also indicated that a detailed plan for the initiative would be released soon, urging all administrative staff to take responsibility for maintaining cleanliness and ensuring the program's effective implementation.
This new initiative mirrors similar efforts Naidu championed during his previous tenure, such as the ‘Swachh AP’ campaign, which took place every Monday. With this ongoing commitment to cleanliness, Naidu aims to create sustained improvements in sanitation and instill a sense of civic responsibility among both public servants and citizens.
Despite the positive reception of the initiative, concerns have arisen about its feasibility, particularly regarding the availability of government officials for these activities. Second Saturdays are usually designated as holidays for district collectors and IPS officers under central government guidelines, raising questions about how the government will manage logistics to ensure the program’s success.
A detailed plan, expected soon, will likely address these concerns and clarify how the initiative will integrate with public servant holiday schedules, ensuring a successful and impactful implementation.
