Pushpa 2: The Rule, the latest blockbuster in the Pushpa franchise, has achieved an unprecedented milestone by becoming the highest-grossing film in Indian box office history, with a staggering ₹1,831 crore in global earnings. This record-breaking feat, which many thought would be impossible, has shattered the dominance of Rajamouli's films like Baahubali, proving that even non-Bollywood films can achieve massive commercial success.
Officially announced by Mythri Movie Makers, the achievement of Pushpa 2 is a historic moment for Indian cinema, particularly Telugu cinema, and a huge victory for Allu Arjun, who has now joined the ranks of Bollywood’s biggest stars. Traditionally, such box-office feats were seen as a domain of Bollywood superstars like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan, but now Allu Arjun has set a new benchmark for mass commercial films.
Producer Naga Vamshi recently remarked that after witnessing the success of Pushpa 2, Bollywood stars may have sleepless nights, hinting at even more records to be broken by Telugu cinema. Despite a strong run for over a month, Pushpa 2 continues to show remarkable box-office performance. On Sunday alone, the film sold over 90,000 tickets through Book My Show.
Although competition from other films, such as Marco, has garnered positive reviews, they haven't come close to matching the success Pushpa 2 achieved in its second week. With the upcoming Sankranti festival rush likely to affect the south Indian box office, the film continues to dominate in the north, where it is expected to maintain its strong presence for the next 50 days due to the lack of major Bollywood releases.
