Young actors Santosh Sobhan and Priya Bhavani Shankar play the lead roles in Kalyanam Kamaneeyam which hit the theaters today. The film is billed to be a youthful family drama.
Story: Love blossoms into marriage for Siva(Santosh) and Sruthi(Priya Bhavani Shankar) but Siva is jobless and his efforts at trying to find a job go unnoticed by Sruthi, which leads to complications in their relationship.
How did the actors perform?
Santosh is a good fit for the role of a confused young lad who gets married early in his life. He is ably supported by another fine performer Priya Bhavani Shankar. There's decent chemistry between the pair. The rest of the supporting cast deliver what is expected of them.
What about the technical finesse?
The director Anil Alla picks a fresh subject. The story stars after the marriage of the lead pair which is indeed new and unique. But the way he presents this premise is bland and boring. There isn't a strong conflict to fuel the narrative and at the same time, there arent any exciting moments in the love track either. The music is very good though. There's a pleasant soundtrack through the course of the film. The cinematography is also of very good quality. The framing and DI are pleasing to the eye. The production values by UV Concepts are good.
Analysis: The film is a mere overstretched short film idea. The complications after marriage are relatable but they are presented in a very bland manner. There's no freshness in the presentation. This is the kind of stuff we find even in short films and Instagram reels these days.
The character arcs of Shiva and Shruti are very weak. We can always second guess what their next quarrel is going to be about. As a result, the drama goes for a toss. The film runs on a predictable note all along and the climax ends on the same note as well.
Verdict: As a whole, Kalyanam Kamaneeyam is a bland and unengaging love drama that starts after marriage. It doesn't have the freshness or the impetus to make for a compelling watch.
