Nartana - A Bharatanatyam Performance
"Nartana", meaning "to make others dance", is a representation of the blossoming community of bharatanatyam dancers in the DC metro area. As a group, DMV Adavus meets weekly at Dance Loft to motivate, inspire, and support each others' artistic journeys.
Bharatanatyam is a style of Indian classical dance originating from the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Simply put, it is comprised of 3 key components:

bhaavam (emotion/expression), raagam (melody), and taalam (rhythm). The items to be performed on this evening portrays some combination of these aspects, often telling a story. The show will culminate in a jointly choreographed item, whose energy represents our continued exploration in this field as individual artists and one community.
